The memory is a rather innocuous, but in general a complaint about one, in most part thanks to JEDEC, the standards body in the area of memory. The Story of AMR has been interesting to say the least and it is remarkable to see how the industry grew from DIP DIMM DDR3 in a relatively short space.
DDR3 has increased at a rate fast enough since its inception and now has speeds in the region of 2GHz and at voltages much lower than that of DDR2. The OCZ PC3-14400 NVIDIA SLI-Ready Edition kit has a rated speed of 1800 MHz with a nominal voltage of l.9v a major leap DDR2-800 kits that require 2.0v to run stable and yet still quite high for DDR3 . The schedule is significantly higher than the kits of DDR2, but not unreasonable. stock timings are 8-8-8-27 OCZ kit that is not the lowest, but not unbearable at these speeds.
RAM is usually operated at its rated speed, but if you have the knowledge and determination you can get more out of him. OCZ is a brand that prides itself on offering the possibility to overclock the memory and provides the same guarantee for more-trick of memory. We want more memory manufacturers will follow the example of OCZ regarding the warranty covers voltages higher than the butt.
These modules also feature a second version of Nvidia’s Enhanced Performance Profiles. PEP was given the name of SLI-ready by the marketing department. EPP is essentially additional information on the SPD, which provides the motherboard with automatic overclocking details.
In other words, the system can overclock the memory on the fly while remaining within the known limits of memory. Manufacturers like OCZ and Corsair have been crucial to the development of this additional functionality, which only makes it easier for overclocking budding enthusiasts. EPP, however, only works on motherboards based on Nvidia chipset.
The OCZ PC3-14400 NVIDIA SLI-Ready Edition kit that we tested failed to achieve something close to its rated speed and it was not for lack of trying. Nothing we have done – including adjusting the memory and FSB speed multiplier – could get the 1800MHz modules rated. Tensions have been adjusted to different levels to see if it was somehow related to tension. The motherboard used was a Gigabyte EP45T-DS3R, which lists the modules in particular its compatibility list.
Failing to reach the rated speed is a serious disappointment if we had to bench the RAM to 1333 MHz, which was the only speed the system boot. The results were as expected for such speeds miserable and they are not enough to impress. Interestingly, OCZ adds a warning that little memory used in a quad core system can be run more slowly than nominal. Not that we have already seen this problem occurs, but even if it were true we would expect a decrease of 100MHz, 500MHz and not near.
For a kit that is so expensive, the failure to reach the rated speed is unacceptable. The fact that this kit is such a reputable manufacturer is another shock. Unfortunately, memory is a lottery, but this should never be random. Normally when you buy a kit memory overclock the chance he could correctly is unknown, some kits overclock extremely well while others can barely reach speeds faster than nominal value.
Having spent considerable time testing the modules and try our best to get them to their rated speed, an act that no consumer should ever have to worry, we can not provide these modules thumbs upwards
